The Secret to Good Hot Chocolate

With Valentine's Day only a few days away and news of the blustery cold and snow in the East, I thought sharing a little secret with you that I recently stumbled upon to keep you warm would be welcomed.  This secret is actually a travesty to be kept as a secret and I encourage you to share it with as many others as you can.  So here it is: Hot Chocolate is made best when cocoa powder is NOT involved.  It's true.  Cocoa powder just makes your hot chocolate taste like chalk instead of the luxurious richness it was destined to be.

A friend of mine discovered this gem of an article on BuzzFeed entitled 10 Commandments of Awesome Hot Chocolate and after I read it, I was able to craft the best hot chocolate drink I think I've ever made (and I used to be a Starbucks Barista).
I'm still going to develop my hot chocolate making skills as my first attempt yielded some intensely chocolatey hot chocolate.  I'm also thinking of ways to make it more exciting like adding spices to create a chai infused hot chocolate or adding a raspberry compote to make a fruit infused hot chocolate.

So leave the cocoa powder in the cupboard and enjoy a new hot chocolate experience.

Stay warm friends!
